Times Past will demonstrate seventeenth/eighteenth century printing techniques on its replica portable printing press. It was the equivalent to an ink jet printer because two people could carry it and used to print anything from posters to seditious handbills even counterfeit banknotes.
The theme of this fascinating exhibition will be forgery and counterfeiting of bank notes, printing counterfeit banknotes copying those of a ‘private’ bank that declared bankruptcy in 1810. Visitors to the Museum will have the opportunity public to look at an actual counterfeit £1 notes and try to spot the difference with a real £1 note.
