Accompanied Walks provide an opportunity for members of the community who need some encouragement and support, or have little or no opportunity to venture outdoors and interact with other people. The programme is designed to support adults experiencing social isolation or bereavement, those with additional support needs and unpaid carers. We also welcome people experiencing sight loss. Participants have the opportunity to enjoy a guided walk around the Museum (or to be driven around in a golf buggy) to explore our 37 heritage buildings, gardens, park and woodland, and chat over a cuppa. Supported by Heart of Bucks and a local grant-making trust. Accompanied Walks are free of charge (larger community groups may be asked to make a small contribution). Dogs on leads are welcome to join us!

The positive impact of this project on our community members was acknowledged with the 'Best Local Social Prescribing Project' award by the National Social Prescribing Network in 2022.

Relax in our gardens and green spaces

Chiltern Open Air Museum is a fantastic place to relax and unwind in green spaces. You can take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful grounds, enjoy a picnic on the grass, or simply sit and soak up the peaceful atmosphere.

The Museum is set in 45 acres of stunning parkland, with plenty of trees and open spaces to explore. There are also plenty of benches and seating areas scattered throughout the site, so you can find a quiet spot to relax and take in the surroundings.

Summer Wellbeing Socials

Building on the success of our award-winning Accompanied Walks programme, we’re pleased to be providing a season of Summer Wellbeing Socials in May and June.

This 8-week programme, designed to promote the health and wellbeing of older community members who are experiencing social isolation, and who may have other conditions such as anxiety and depression, comprises a different creative activity for each session and a slap-up tea!

Along with the benefits of being in the beautiful surroundings of the Museum, the activities are designed to promote cognitive stimulation, the use of fine motor skills and the opportunity to interact with others who may have shared experiences.

Participants are welcome to bring along a relative, friend or carer for moral support.

Summer Wellbeing Socials, which are free of charge, are supported by a local grant-making trust and The Peter Cundill Foundation.
