Festive Weekend

Join us for a weekend of festive fun

A note about the weather - Our event will still be going ahead. We have moved all of our activities inside buildings. You will still need to go outdoors to walk in-between buildings. The site will be wet and muddy in places so please wear appropriate footwear. Our woodland and Iron Age house will be closed over the weekend. We will be parking some cars in the Newland Park development next door so there maybe a short walk from your car to the museum. The Newland Park development will also be holding an open day so you have the opportunity to take a peek and find out a bit more.

About the event

Meet Father Christmas in one of our historic buildings, listen to local choirs performing seasonal tunes and say ‘hello’ to the festive ponies in our fields.

The Museum’s collection of historic buildings will be decorated traditionally for Christmas with ivy, natural foliage, and candles. The 1940s Prefab will show how people celebrated a restrained wartime Christmas enlivened by make-do-and-mend decorations. Within the buildings you will find costumed stewards carrying out activities and telling visitors what life would have been like for past inhabitants.

Tudor re-enactors will be bringing history to life showing pre-Christmas preparations and visitors are invited to help them make traditional kissing boughs.

There will be artisan craft stalls full of locally made products as well as stalls from the traveling historical market. The Museum’s shop will be stocked with items that would make great Christmas gifts. Families can have-a-go at candle-making for a small additional charge, listen to festive storytelling and take part in Christmas themed craft activities.

Visit our snowy forest photo studio and have a Christmas portrait taken by our professional photographer. The 10min session is free as part of your admission fee - digital images and prints will be available to buy within 7 days of the session. Participants have no obligation to buy any images.

We will have Barbarian Grill and El Brocodillo on-site selling hot food.
