Discover the Stone Age at COAM

At Chiltern Open Air Museum, we have a range of immersive school learning experiences.

This Stone Age themed day includes two workshops where our educational leaders bring the theme to life with hand-on activities. The workshops take place in or around our historic buildings, giving students a unique and authentic experience.

Stone Age Day

Transport your students back in time with a Stone Age Day at COAM. This themed day is suitable for both Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2 students.

The day includes two workshops - one introducing the Stone Age and another making Stone Age style tools. Through immersive, hands-on activities like pigment making, shelter building and spear throwing, your children will discover the challenges of daily life that faced early humans. Here at COAM, we focus on the Mesolithic period which took place in Britain between approx. 8,800 and 4,500 BC. This themed day is perfect for igniting their curiosity about history and ancient cultures.
