Groundworks Begin for the 1950s Bandstand

Groundworks for the 1950s Bandstand at Chiltern Open Air Museum

Today, Tuesday 22nd October 2024, we started groundworks for the reconstruction of a 1950s bandstand. The bandstand was originally from Finsbury Circus Gardens.

The bandstand will be on our Leagrave Common near our 1940s prefab. Bandstands were historically found on parkland and supported culture in public places. We will use the bandstand as part of our events and activity programme and to provide a sheltered space for visitors to enjoy our site.

The bandstand reconstruction costs are covered thanks to The Mulberry Trust, Mobbs Memorial Trust, Arts Council and private donations. The groundwork and foundation work is gifted by Comer Homes.
