Rag Rugs

Rag rug workshop

Our Rag Rug workshop

This rag rug workshop for schools will last for 45 minutes and takes place in our Thame vicarage.

The objective of this workshop is to explore how families recycled their clothing to create warm coverings for their floors.

Children will:

  • Explore the concept of recycling in a new, historical context.
  • Learn how and why rag rugs were used in homes in the past.
  • Learn how to create a rag rug (to take home)
  • Explore how a rag-rug artefact can give us clues helping us identify its age.
