Green Museum
We are committed to playing a role in environmental protection and conservation.
The Museum has an environmentally-friendly ethos. The 45 acre site, which includes woodland and arable fields, is maintained using traditional skills and machinery. We are self-sufficient where possible, we use vegetables grown on the allotment in our catering facilities, we use timber coppiced in our woodland as fuel and building material and repairing metalwork in the Forge.
The Museum also encourages everyone to recycle – using our barrel bins which are themselves recycled!
The museum’s Happy Museum Project ‘Green Ways from Yesterday’ shared and celebrated environmentally-friendly living tips from the 1940s. Two new trails around the Museum were created for the project: a sustainability trail and a children’s trail.
In June 2013, the Museum won the environmental category of the first-ever Pride of Bucks awards, organised by the Buckinghamshire Examiner and Advertiser Newspapers Series. The law firm B P Collins LLP, based in Gerrards Cross, sponsored the trophy for Environmental Project of the Year.
